Most LinkedIn profile audits are subjective. This one isn't — it looks for the same handful of objective signals that recruiters, buyers, and the LinkedIn search algorithm consistently react to. The point isn't to grade your taste; it's to flag the things you can fix in 10 minutes that genuinely change how your profile performs.

Headline: the five things that move the score

  • Length usage. LinkedIn allows 220 characters. Profiles using 60 or fewer leave most of the search-indexable space empty. Aim for 120–220.
  • Specificity. Concrete numbers, audience descriptors, and niche terms beat abstractions. A headline with no number or named audience is invisible in search.
  • Hype-word check. Guru, ninja, rockstar, wizard, thought leader — these signal effort over substance and get filtered out by serious recruiters.

  • Pre-fold strength. The first ~210 characters are the only thing visible before "see more". Open with a specific result, claim, or moment — not a "Hi! my name is" greeting.
  • Length usage. LinkedIn allows 2,600 characters. Strong About sections sit between 1,500 and 2,600 — enough to tell a story, prove results, and end with a CTA.
  • Call to action. If a buyer or recruiter reaches the end of the section, what do they do next? Email, DM, calendar link, or a URL — pick one, make it obvious.
  • Specificity. Numbers, dates, dollar amounts, follower counts, deal sizes. Proof beats claims every time.
  • Filler-phrase check. The same generic language that hurts the headline hurts the About — only worse, because there's more space for it to accumulate.
